After penning 10 mystery novels, I had the sudden urge to write my memoir. I woke up one morning toward the end of 2014 and set to work. The book, which I titled Exchanging Homelands, came off the press in October of 2015. The memoir is not for sale and unavailable to the general public. I had hardcovers printed and presented them to family and close friends only.
The poignant - - and at times humorous - - story of my life gives a glimpse into my struggles and triumphs as I exchange my Swiss homeland for that of the United States. From my early years in Zurich to living as a young adult in New York City to raising a family in California to my golden years, the book gives insight into my world.
Why bother to write a book without the possibility of a monetary return? you may ask. I wrote it first and foremost for myself - - wallowing in funny, happy, sad, or challenging times gone by - - and also to leave a legacy to my daughters, grandchildren, and future generations in the family line. A boss of mine often stated that she would write her memoir once she hung up her shingle. As far as I know, she led a fascinating life well worth writing about. She died in her eighties without having produced the promised biography.
So you folks out there, get to work! You will find it rewarding.
